Un Plato Más was created with one clear purpose: to put food on the tables of Havana’s most vulnerable. The name means “One More Plate”—because every extra plate of food we provide can change someone’s day, or even their life.
—
What We’re Creating
We are building a soup kitchen in Havana that will serve hot, home-style meals to those who need them most:
Children who often go to school without breakfast.
Single mothers who struggle to stretch their resources.
Elders who live alone and cannot always afford or prepare food.
The homeless who have no other options for a meal.
Our goal is to prepare simple, nutritious meals from local ingredients: rice and beans, proteins like chicken or pork, vegetables such as malanga and plantains, and fresh fruit when available.
For many, this may be the only hot meal they will have that day.
—
The Cost of a Plate
It doesn’t take much to make a huge difference. On average, a full meal at Un Plato Más will cost:
$2.00 per plate (ingredients, cooking fuel, supplies).
$150 feeds 75 people for a day.
$750 provides 375 meals in a week.
$1,500 provides 750 meals—enough to feed hundreds of families in need.
Every dollar raised brings us closer to a kitchen that can serve thousands of meals each month.
—
How Mission Trips Will Support the Kitchen
Through our partnership with Buen Sabor Tours, we invite church groups, friend groups, and organizations to join us on 5-day mission trips.
Each trip includes:
Hands-on service helping launch and operate the soup kitchen.
Cultural connection: time with Cuban church communities and neighbors.
Authentic exploration of Havana’s history, music, and food with Buen Sabor Tours.
Lodging, local transportation, and at least one meal daily from our kitchen.
Every person who joins funds 750 meals. That means:
A group of 5 volunteers = 3,750 meals.
A group of 10 volunteers = 7,500 meals.
A group of 16 volunteers = 12,000 meals.

Why This Matters Now
Cuba is facing food shortages and rising costs like never before. Families often must choose between medicine, rent, and food. Un Plato Más is being built to be a consistent source of relief for hundreds of people.
Children will gain strength to focus in school.
Mothers will find relief knowing their families won’t go to bed hungry.
Elders will regain dignity through shared meals.
The homeless will know they are not forgotten.

Join Us
Un Plato Más is built on a simple truth: a plate of food can be life-changing.
With your help, we can open the doors, keep the pots cooking, and fill the tables. Together, we can serve Havana—one plate at a time.
